1. Lending collection

   The lending section of library has over 5000 text books, most of them covering the subject areas of Geology, Geophysics, Geo chemistry, Analytical chemistry, Seismology, earth science, environmental science, Mining engineering. Description of item in this collection can be found using the online library catalogue near future. Lending books are arranged on the shelves by subject according to the international standard classification scheme called. “Dewey Decimal Classification”

2. Reference collection

   This consists of reference material such as dictionaries, Encyclopedias, atlas, year book, Administrative reports, unpublished technical reports, abstract & professional paper, etc… This collection can be referred to users only in the library.

3. Theses collection

   The library consist of all higher degree theses completed by the staff of the GSMB staff members who obtained post graduate degree at overseas universities and institute. The dissertations are listed in the catalogue under the subject.

4. Map collection

   Maps and Atlases collection comprises about maps. The collection include; topographical maps, Road map, National atlas of Sri Lanka, Geology map 1:100,000 scale maps 22, Geology Map of Sri Lanka, Mineral map of SL (03 languages), metamorphic map of SL, Structural map of Sri Lanka, Geology map 1:250,000 scale 04, Quaternary map of Sri Lanka 1:50,000 scale 03 and 1:50,000 Geology map (blue print) 26 nos.

5. Periodicals collection

   Periodicals collection consist on the year 1887 to 2014 covering the flowing subject area Geology, Geophysics, Geochemistry, Industrial mineral, Seismology analytical chemistry, petrology etc….(Journal list shows in the OPAC)

6. Newspaper clipping

   An excerpt cut form a local newspapers. Daily newspapers such as the daily news, The Island, Divaina, Lankadeepa, Silumina, Sunday lankadeepa, Sunday observer… are available in the library.

7. Special collection

   The collection was built up and selected form materials contributed by an individual in vast quantity as well as according to library criteria. Now the library has following collection.

- The late Prof P.G. Cooray collection
